Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG easily

Updated October 12, 2026

Take a photo on an iPhone, then try to open it on a Windows PC or upload it to a website, and you may find the file ends in .HEIC and simply won't work. This guide explains what the format is and how to convert it.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (or HEIF) is a modern image format that Apple devices use by default since iOS 11. It stores high-quality photos at roughly half the size of a JPG. The downside is that many apps, websites and upload forms still don't accept it.

When do you need JPG?

How to convert in Cyanframe

  1. Open the compress & convert tool.
  2. Drag your HEIC photos onto the page or click to choose them. You can select several at once.
  3. Choose JPG (or WebP if the images are for a website) and leave max width at 0 to keep the original size.
  4. Click “Start processing”, then “Download results”. Several images are downloaded together as one ZIP file.

Conversion happens inside your browser, so your personal photos are never uploaded to a server. HEIC can take a little longer than other formats, especially on a phone.

Alternative: make the iPhone save JPG directly

If you always need JPG, change the iPhone setting: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG, but they will take more space on your phone.

Does converting reduce quality?

At 90% quality or higher the difference is not noticeable. If you also want smaller files, 80% quality at 2000 px wide gives excellent results for most uses.
